Read Philippians 1:21-26. What stands out to you in this section?

If you had to put verse 21 into your own words, how would you say it? Do you think of physical death as a “gain”?

In verse 22, Paul describes life on earth for him as “fruitful labor”. Do you think of your life on earth as doing work for God? Do you think this only applies to pastors or missionaries? Why or why not?

What do you think our role as Christians is in the “work of God”?

On Sunday, Wade shared the illustration of Christians being like a glove. Has there been a time in your life that you think God used you like a glove? If so, when?

Read John 6:29, John 14:12, 1 Peter 4:11, John 12:24-26. Using these scriptures, and any others you may know, describe what the life and work of a Christian should look like?

In his sermon on Sunday, Wade drew comparisons between the journey of a Christian and the journey of Israel out of Egypt. Do you see parallels between the story of Israel and the story of a believer? If so, what?

Which part of the story do you identify with the most in your life right now?

Dead – Egypt

Slaves

Rescued from Death

Saved by the Blood of the Lamb

Baptized by water

Enemy was conquered

Christ in Us – Wilderness

Set Free

Have a destination

Some provision

God is Present

Longing for the world

Not living by faith

Us in Christ – Promised Land

Christ is our life

Life in the land

Living in God’s full provision

Living in God’s plan for His chosen people

Read Numbers 14:1-3, 11. What kept the Israelites out of the Promised Land for so long? Is there something keeping you in your life from entering God’s full promise for your life?

Read Ephesians 2:8-10, Hebrews 11:6 & Galatians 3:1-3, 11. What do you think it means to “live by faith and not by works”?

Do you find it difficult to live under faith and not by works? Why or why not?

Read James 2:14-26 & Matthew 5:16. If we are to live by faith and not works, and works do not lead to salvation, then why are works still important?

What do you think of the phrase “a saved soul but a wasted life”?

AW Tozer said, “God is looking for those with whom He can do the impossible – what a pity that we plan only the things that we can do by ourselves.” Can you think of things that you have seen God do that would be impossible for man alone?

Read John 15:10-12. What does it mean to remain or abide in God’s Love?

Take some time to pray as a group that God would help us to abide in his love.
